Faculty Members
The Department of Psychiatry is in the College
of Medicine.
The program of the Department of Psychiatry is designed to help students
develop an understanding of the variety, range and determinants of both normal
and abnormal forms of human behavior. In addition, the student is helped to
develop those skills that are needed in recognizing and dealing with mental
disorders, whether primary or secondary to other illness.
To meet these goals, both didactic courses and clinical instruction are
offered in the College of Medicine curriculum. After students have been
introduced to normal personality functions and to abnormal processes which
form the basis of psychopathology, they are given an opportunity to work
directly with patients in a variety of clinical settings, both psychiatric and
medical.
In addition to clinical training, the students are helped to develop an
understanding of the current social, economic and legal issues relevant to the
organization and delivery of mental health services.
