The Department of Radiology is in the College
of Medicine.
The Department of Radiology consists of the division of Diagnostic
Radiology and the division of Nuclear Medicine. Diagnostic Radiology is
that branch of radiology which deals with the utilization of all modalities of
medical imaging and therapeutic procedures using imaging guidance. This
includes techniques and methodologies utilizing x-rays, ultrasound and nuclear
magnetic resonance. Nuclear Medicine is that branch of radiology which
involves the use of radionuclides and radiolabeled substances for diagnostic
imaging and related in vivo techniques. Both basic imaging physics and
clinical radiological principles and techniques are featured in medical
student, resident, and graduate student teaching. A broad background is
provided so that students can apply this knowledge regardless of the career
field chosen. For medical students, there is also instruction on the
appropriate ordering of image studies.
Research opportunities are available in the Imaging and NMR
laboratories, Nuclear Medicine, the Vascular and Interventional laboratories,
and in adult and pediatric Diagnostic Radiology.
