Arizona International College: Fine and Performing Arts (AIFA)  Department Info

AIFA 199 -- Independent Study  (1-3 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work.
Prerequisite(s):  consent of instructor for non-AIC students.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

AIFA 202 -- Art and Peoples of the World  (3 units)
Description:  This course explores contemporary and 20th-century visual arts within a multicultural, international context. Individual artists' works, critical/theoretical issues, and techniques that are significantly representative of different cultures and societies will be examined, with special consideration of the relationships of the visual arts to other art forms.
Course includes 1 or more field trips.
Prerequisite(s):  instructor consent for non-AIC students.
Usually offered:  Fall.

AIFA 215 -- The Computer in the Visual Arts  (3 units)
Description:  This course is designed to acquaint the student with the historical, theoretical, and technical aspects of the use of the computer to create art and to provide a foundation for further work in animation and interactive multimedia.
Prerequisite(s):  instructor consent for non-AIC students.
Usually offered:  Spring.

AIFA 281 -- Elemental Images: Photography and Our World  (3 units)
Description:  This course is designed to introduce students to the medium of photography as a form of art, technology and social tool. The emphasis will be on the development of a personal aesthetic and the ability to convey ideas and concepts creatively and coherently through photographic images.
Usually offered:  Spring.

AIFA 285 -- Drawing as Seeing and Knowing  (3 units)
Description:  This course is designed to acquaint the student with the basic historical, theoretical, and technical aspects of drawing. The objectives are 1) to provide experience in the fundamental skills of perceptual, or representational, drawing; 2) to deepen appreciation of drawing as a means for increasing visual awareness and as a cognitive process; and 3) to develop an understanding of drawing within the context of the visual arts.
Usually offered:  Fall.
