Anesthesiology (ANES)  Department Info

ANES 499 -- Independent Study  (1-3 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall.

ANES 800 -- Research  (1-6 units)
Description:  contact department.
May be repeated:  for a total of 12 units of credit.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 810A -- Anesthesiology  (4-6 units)
Description:  contact department.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 810B -- Pain Management  (4 units)
Description:  contact department.
Prerequisite(s):  4th-year medical student or consent of instructor.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Spring.

ANES 810C -- Clerkship in ICU  (4 units)
Description:  Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix.
Prerequisite(s):  4th-year medical student or consent of instructor.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 810D -- Anesthesiology Sub-Internship  (4 units)
Description:  Goals: At the end of this subinternship, the student will be able to: administer a general anesthetic on an ASA performance status I or II patient which includes comprehensive pre-anesthetic evaluation, appropriate preparation of the site of the general anesthetic, induction of general anesthesia, maintenance of general anesthesia, emergence of general anesthesia, transport to the post anesthesia care unit, report to the post anesthesia care unit nurse; evaluate a patient for the necessity of endotracheal intubation; recognize and manage a patient with a potentially difficult airway; gather the appropriate supplies to place a central venous line; gather the appropriate supplies and place an arterial line; evaluate a patient for conscious sedation for painful procedures and use the appropriate drugs.
Prerequisite(s):  completion or near-completion of required clerkships.

ANES 810E -- Anesthesiology Directed Reading Course  (4 units)
Description:  Goals: Upon successful completion of this elective, the students will be able to: relate the physiology of patients to the interventions of the anesthesiology for perioperative management; recognize the patient with a potentially difficult airway and discuss the anatomy and physiology of the difficulty.
Prerequisite(s):  ANES 810A or subinternship in anesthesiology.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 815A -- BNI Neuroanesthesiology  (4 units)
Description:  contact department.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall.

ANES 815B -- Obstetrical Anesthesia  (4 units)
Description:  contact department.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Spring.

ANES 815P -- Critical Care Medicine  (1-18 units)
Description:  contact department.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Identical to:  MEDI 815P.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 891A -- Anesthesiology and Subspecialties  (1-18 units)
Description:  Specialized work on an individual basis, consisting of instruction and practice in actual service in a department, program, or discipline. Teaching formats may include seminars, in-depth studies, laboratory work and patient study.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ANES 899 -- Independent Study  (1-16 units)
Description:  The goal of this elective is to allow the student to work with a particular faculty member in pursuit of a particular field of study in anesthesiology.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.
