AIFA 201
-- World Music and Cultures
(3 units) Description: This course introduces students to music from around the world, including Latin America, North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Emphasis will be laid on the historical and cultural contexts of the various musical traditions and the role music plays in human understanding and development. Typical structure: 2 hours lecture, 1 hour discussion. Usually offered: Spring.

-- Art and Peoples of the World
(3 units) Description: This course explores contemporary and 20th-century visual arts within a multicultural, international context. Individual artists' works, critical/theoretical issues, and techniques that are significantly representative of different cultures and societies will be examined, with special consideration of the relationships of the visual arts to other art forms. Course includes 1 or more field trips. Prerequisite(s): instructor consent for non-AIC students. Usually offered: Fall.

(3 units) Description: This course is designed to acquaint the student with the historical, theoretical, and technical aspects of the use of the computer to create art and to provide a foundation for further work in animation and interactive multimedia. -- Elemental Images: Photography and Our World
(3 units) Description: This course is designed to introduce the seriously committed photography student to the medium and
craft of photography as a form of artistic expression and documentation. The emphasis will be on the technical/artistic craft of taking photographs
and each student will be required to shoot/develop at least one roll of film a week. Through practice and exploration, each student will develop a
personal aesthetic and the ability to convey ideas and concepts creatively and coherently through photographic images. Each student must have
full access to a camera with full manual override and the resources to shoot and develop at least 12 rolls of film during the semester. Usually offered: Spring.

-- Drawing as Seeing and Knowing
(3 units) Description: This course is designed to acquaint the student with the basic historical, theoretical, and technical aspects of drawing. The objectives are 1) to provide experience in the fundamental skills of perceptual, or representational, drawing; 2) to deepen appreciation of drawing as a means for increasing visual awareness and as a cognitive process; and 3) to develop an understanding of drawing within the context of the visual arts. Usually offered: Fall.
