B AD 102 -- Survey of Management Fields and Careers  (1-3 units)
Description:  This career exploratory course is designed for first-years students in the Eller College in order to provide a broad overview of the functional areas and disciplines in business and public administration, as well as introduce and aid in the process of academic and career planning. Students will be provided with tools and resources useful in gaining an understanding of the process of career decision-making, which includes self-assessment, decision-making and goal setting. This course will enable students to make career decisions based on an assessment of their interests, skills and values, coupled with occupational and industry information provided through presentations and resources.

B AD 103 -- Introduction to Business Competency and Success  (1-3 units)
Description:  This course is offered to a limited number of first semester freshmen enrolled in the Eller College of Business and Public Administration. The course will expose students to the functional areas of business, as well as strategic competencies crucial to success in the management fields. These competencies include communication and interpersonal skills, team-based decision making, critical thinking, and global and cultural awareness.

B AD 111L -- Mastering Microsoft Excel  (1 unit)
Temporary course:  offered during Fall 2003 only.
Description:  Software programs like Microsoft Excel enable students and business professionals alike to become effective knowledge workers. This course is designed to teach students Excel skills that will support their studies in courses such as math, statistics, marketing, and more. This course prepares students with expert-level skills necessary for Microsoft Excel certification. Achieving this nationally recognized credential demonstrates to both faculty and prospective employers that the student has mastered this important business tool. The semester will culminate with a final Microsoft official certification exam.

B AD 201 -- Topics and Careers in the Global Environment  (1-3 units)
Description:  The objective for this course is to introduce students to the field of international business, and provide background and skills necessary to pursue an international career, develop business relationships across cultures, and broaden the students’ knowledge base in global issues.

Prerequisite(s):  must take before participating in International Business Certificate Program.

B AD 291 -- Preceptorship  (1-6 units)
Description:  Specialized work on an individual basis, consisting of instruction and practice in actual service in a department, program, or discipline. Teaching formats may include seminars, in-depth studies, laboratory work and patient study.

B AD 293A -- Business Administration Internship  (1-3 units)
Description:  Specialized work on an individual basis, consisting of training and practice in actual service in a technical, business, or government establishment.

B AD 301 -- Global and Financial Economics and Strategies  (3 units)
Description:  This is one of three upper division courses that is required to complete a business minor in the College of Business and Public Administration under the Business Administration category. This is an applications based course which looks at the financial and economic operations of domestic and world markets. This course can not be used towards any business major degree.

B AD 302 -- Human Side of Organizations  (3 units)
Description:  This is one of three upper division courses that is required to complete a business minor in the College of Business and Public Administration under the Business Administration category. This course is intended to provide an overview of organizational behavior, effective management skills, law and ethics in the workplace, and human relations. This course can not be used towards any business major degree.

B AD 303 -- Application of Marketing Concepts and Tools in Business and Society  (3 units)
Description:  This is one of three upper division courses that is required to complete a business minor in the College of Business and Public Administration under the Business Administration category. This course is intended to provide an overview of marketing concepts with attention to consumer behavior, ethics, international and nonprofit components. This course can not be used towards any business major degree

B AD 304 -- Survey of Finance  (3 units)
Description:  An introduction to finance which provides an overview of the different areas of finance, introduces students to career options in finance, and provides a foundation in the basic tools and techniques of finance. It also covers the impact of markets and institutions on businesses. This course is simply an introduction to financial topics. This is a web-based course, which means that students must be self-directed to be successful in mastering course requirements.

B AD 314 -- Business Communication  (3 units)
Description:  Course intended to introduce students to the strategic nature of business communication. By the end of the course, students should be able to analyze business situations and prepare messages that fulfill all of the intended purposes of their communication, meet the needs and expectations of business audiences, and take into account other relevant contextual factors. Students must have adequate oral and communication skills to be able to effectively focus on developing the higher-order thinking skills that are necessary to succeed in the course. In order to help students devise successful communication strategies, the course will also therefore emphasize the development of these higher-order skills, which include analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

B AD 314L -- Business Communication Lab  (1 unit)
Description:  A one-credit workshop designed to address the needs of students who need additional instruction and practice in business communication. More specifically, B AD 314A focuses on oral and written instruction to help ESL students with the challenges they face. The curriculum includes English written/oral organizational skills, grammar skills, vocabulary building, American English pronunciation/intonation instruction and practice, and comparative cultural practices. The course requires some assignments, both in and out of class, in order to clarify or solidify the key concepts on which students need to work. Students are encouraged to bring in writing assignments from other classes for review and discussion. Students can repeat the course as often as they need during their matriculation at the Eller College. To encourage students to be responsible for their own knowledge acquisition, the course is designated pass/fail.

B AD 315 -- Management Communication Review  (2 units)
Description:  This two credit, skills-based course gives you the opportunity to review and improve your written communication skills. You will examine and practice the written communication strategies and skills that are essential for your success in business.

B AD 395A -- Topics in Career Planning and Development  (1-3 units)
Description:  Expand students’ knowledge of career development and strategies for conducting a successful job search. Students will strengthen their skills and apply the knowledge to develop a strategic self-marketing plan. Topics examined will include: career planning, self-assessment, occupational options, interviewing skills, employment search strategies, professional practices, and employment trends. The course will involve lectures facilitated by instructor, recruiters, alum and corporate representatives. Also incorporated will be experiential exercises, site visits, individual career exploration and skill development assignments

Prerequisite(s):  students who have professional admissions in the Eller College and are in the second semester of the cohort program.

B AD 449 -- International Business Environments  (3 units)
Description:  Study of the widely-varying social, political, cultural and economic factors which make up different countries' unique business environments.

Prerequisite(s):  ECON 300 or ECON 361. Open to international business programs students only.

B AD 450 -- Principles of International Business  (3 units)
Description:  Study of corporate interactions in an international business environment. Involves practical experience in actual business settings.

B AD 493A -- Business Administration Internship  (1-6 units)

B AD 493L -- Legislative Internship  (1-12 units)
Description:  Working experience at the Arizona State Legislature; responsibilities draw upon student's area of major expertise and include preparing written and oral reports, summarizing legislative proposals, and providing information to legislators and legislative committees.

B AD 496Z -- University Management  (1-3 units)
Description:  This is an applied consulting class. This course will be provided to give students an insight into the inner-workings of the university, while demonstrating methods of improvement applicable to individual colleges.

B AD 498 -- Senior Capstone  (1-3 units)
Description:  A culminating experience for majors involving a substantive project that demonstrates a synthesis of learning accumulated in the major, including broadly comprehensive knowledge of the discipline and its methodologies. Senior standing required.

Description:  To introduce the student to the basic elements of career development and how to conduct a successful job search. B AD 507 -- Business Field Projects  (2 units)
Description:  This course gives graduate business students the chance to apply the skills they've learned in their first year curriculum in a field setting, with a hosting organization. Teams of MBAs will scope, plan and execute a project for an organization to deliver something of value to them. Students will have support from the Field Project director and other faculty.

B AD 510 -- Foundations of Business for Scientists  (3 units)
Description:  Foundation of Business for Scientists course will focus on topics of fundamental macro-economics, project development and management, business and organizational modeling, decision analysis and communication/presentation skills.

B AD 594A -- Business Simulation  (2 units)
Description:  Students participate in a multi-semester computerized simulation of a business enterprise. This involves forming teams which then become the companies that operate in the simulated business industry. Each team must identify market opportunities, competitive threats, and resource requirements. The teams then design, produce, and market simulated products which best serve the market needs in a manner that surpasss competitive offerings. Students learn strategy analysis and development techniques, team building and leadership skills, and effective communication practices.

B AD 594B -- Applied Research Project  (1-5 units)
Description:  Under direct supervision of a faculty member, students must design and complete a project that integrates their masters level coursework with an existing business problem to produce an effective solution. The project can take up to 3 semesters to complete and involves the following stages: problem definition; project design; project implementation. The net result is a project which utilizes the student's coursework acquired knowledge in developing a solution to a problem with a real business application. Students must enroll for 2 units of credit for fall and spring semesters and 1 unit for summer, for a total of 5 credit hours. Grade will be given after all 5 units are completed. In addition to direct supervision by a faculty member, students will meet regularly with the dean of the MBA program regarding the status of their project.

B AD 594C -- International Business Law  (3 units)
Description:  The practical application, on an individual basis, of previously studied theory and the collection of data for future theoretical interpretation.

B AD 596A -- Master's Report  (6 units)
Description:  The development and exchange of scholarly information, usually in a small group setting. The scope of work shall consist of research by course registrants, with the exchange of the results of such research through discussion, reports, and/or papers.

May be repeated:  for a total of 12 units of credit.

B AD 596C -- International Business Law  (3 units)
Description:  An introduction to international and domestic agreements, regulations and case law that affect global trade in goods and services. Intergovernmental organization that impact "doing business" internationally will be analyzed within the framework of logical business issues facing multinational enterprises.

B AD 596D -- International Business  (3 units)
Description:  This course will review major concepts in international business from the viewpoint of the multinational firm. Key topics will include the firm's international strategy and the way in which it influences the firm's organization; interactions with home and host governments and with super-national organizations; and the response of multinational firms to emerging trends in the world economy.
