The Department:
The Department of Mining and
Geological Engineering is in the College of
Engineering.
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (ABET
Accredited):
Mining engineering is that branch of engineering responsible for planning,
developing and operating mines and other activities reliant upon the
excavation of rock and soil. Mining
engineers acquire an intimate understanding of the unique environment
presented underground; they learn how rock behaves when excavated, how to plan
and supervise mines and how to excavate, transport and process minerals and
coal. Graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering find
employment in the fields of design and operation of underground and surface
mines, mine management, heavy construction and tunneling projects, heavy
equipment development and project finance.
Tri-University Master of Engineering:
In addition to the degrees above, the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering participates in the
Tri-University Master of Engineering degree program. The program is a
practice-oriented, focused degree that allows participants to take courses at
any of the three state institutions with a distance-learning format.
For more information contact the department office listed
above.
