Course Description
This course focuses on contemporary art and visual culture as a meaningful part of the world in which we live and understanding ourselves within the context of art and visual culture. Key themes in the course include defining art and visual culture, considering why art is made, who makes it, who defines it and what is the relationship between art and ourselves within culture at large. Additionally, the class will explore the concept of art making as an endeavor in which all participants can begin to view their artwork as valid and legitimate expressions of self and culture.
