Course Description

This course explores the role of studio art and visual culture in contemporary society. It is a survey of contemporary art designed to introduce you to the history and theory of contemporary visual arts practices from 1980 to the present. We will examine art-making practices and explore connections between the arts, pop culture, and society at large. The course will serve as a framework within which contemporary artworks can be discussed.
