Course Description

In this seminar incoming MFA students will focus on the theoretical and philosophical underpinning of their work in the context of contemporary creative practice through readings, discussions and presentations about the discourses of contemporary art and design. Each student will develop a project proposal with a bibliography including: related artists and projects;curators, exhibitions and catalogue essays;scholarly publications; and other forms of art such as film, theater, literature, dance and music. Emphasis will be on the opportunities for interdisciplinary research projects afforded by a large research one university and developing proposals for internal and external funding/support such as fellowships, grants and residencies.
