The Fegtly Moot Court Competition provides students with formal instruction and experience in appellate oral advocacy. Students participating in the Fegtly Moot Court Competition will learn best practices in appellate oral advocacy through instruction from Moot Court Board members, coaching from the faculty advisor, and feedback from local judges and attorneys; enhance their public-speaking and oral-advocacy skills by preparing and delivering at least four simulated oral arguments; build confidence in their independent judgment and foster by responding to on-the-spot questions regarding complex legal issues from a bench of moot judges; work towards professional-identity formation by simulating the role of an appellate advocate; exercise critical thinking skills and develop independent professional judgment; and practice professionalism - including the professional values of diligence, competence, candor to the court, respect for others, and fairness to opposing party and counsel - through participating in simulated oral argument.
