Course Description

Supervised clinical patient care in a developing nation. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the language of the selected country and adequate preparation for the assignment. Locations are in Latin American countries. A qualified faculty physician provides direct supervision at each site. Where possible, efforts will be made to assist in the location of funding sources to help finance travel expenses. Additionally, the student will be locally mentored in the development of a health project in preparation for a selected activity for the trip. Examples include learning about and preparing a model for the chronic management of diabetes, asthma, or hypertension in the community site; or learning about and preparing a model to support infant and child nutrition.
