Course Description
A survey of the traditions and people surrounding the performance of art music in the United States. In addition to investigating important composers and their compositions, the course will engage performers, ensembles, social trends and other aspects of America's musical culture, as it has influenced the performance of art music in America. Graduate-level requirements include more involved subjective portion of their midterm and final exams (Essay portion). Presentations are expected to be more substantial facilitate classroom discussion and group learning. Papers will be longer and require a more substantial bibliography.
