HIST596S - Colonialism and Anti-Colonialism
Course ID
024434
Course Description
Anti-colonial leaders and intellectuals did not just reject colonial rule, but in many cases regarded colonialism as the symptom of a basic flaw in modern society and politics. Similarly, influential Western thinkers have taken colonialism to be a primary instance of the kind of domination that is present in many facets of modern life. This course takes up a range of colonial and postcolonial figures from Gandhi and Fanon to more recent luminaries and connects their ideas with current theories of modern society. The course materials include political and theoretical writings, scholarly studies, fictional narratives, poems, and films.
