Course Description
This is a survey course of the criminal legal process through a study of the court processes. This three-unit, interactive course involves a review of the jurisdictional authority of courts from city to district to federal district court as well as a review the appellate process for each jurisdictional level. In addition, students will learn about the roles of judges, lawyers, courthouse and administrative support personnel in the context of criminal and civil law proceedings. The course will also cover the responsibilities of probation officers, social workers and the various professional roles of criminal justice specialists in the legal process.
