Course Description
In this course, we will develop an understanding of the variety and unity of Jewish Philosophy through the ages by examining it both as Jewish and as Philosophy. We will read texts in these traditions from the ancient Near East (starting with the Bible), the medieval Islamic world, early modern and Enlightenment Europe, and contemporary philosophy. We will seek to elucidate the questions of life, morality, and religion present in these texts by methods both philosophical and Talmudic, and we'll reflect on the strengths and limitations of both methods.
