Course Description

This course introduces students to the foundations of American government, politics, and political behavior. This course serves as a foundation for the study of American Politics, especially as it pertains to mass political behavior and how elites function within the three branches of government. The course also emphasizes theoretical approaches to democracy, and it encourages students to consider whether our current political system meets the requisites of a representative democracy. The topics discussed in this course vary and cover the American government, voting behavior, linkage groups, political campaigns, and the mass media.
