Course Description

Humans and animals easily adapt to changes in their world through learning. The focus of this course is to learn science based principles of learning and how to apply them to to training pets, raising children, improving relationships, improving study skills, behavior therapy and more. First we will learn about classical conditioning and how it applies to the development and treatment of drug addition, anxiety, and food aversions. Then in operant conditioning we learn how to effectively increase and decrease voluntary behaviors. We will examine applications of this approach including child management, dog and horse training. Each study will have a CD with Sniffy, the Virtual Rat, who can be trained to demonstrate basic principles as well as to do tricks.
