Course Description

This rotation takes place at Sierra Tucson, a residential treatment center with a trauma informed care model. The setting provides a high degree of structure for patients who live on campus and typically spend 4-6 weeks in treatment.

The elective rotation involves a mix of experiences including shadowing psychiatrists, addiction medicine physicians and allied mental health staff during patient appointments, attending group and family therapy, and patient lectures for addiction, trauma, mood disorders, chronic pain and grief. Students may also attend a family week in which family members travel to the premises for family therapy and psycho-education on the spectrum of mental health disorders. Students will be able to observe integration of biological, psychotherapeutic, social, and spiritual treatments within a multi-disciplinary team.
