Course Description
The purpose of this course is to further the development of skills and knowledge in interpretation/transliteration between English and American Sign Language (ASL) with the primary focus on ASL to English interpretations. Various ASL source texts will be used to practice consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Students will practice producing equivalent interpretations/transliterations through the use of discourse mapping and other strategies. Public speaking skills, discourse styles and expansion of English vocabulary will also be stressed.
Students will be expected to read and analyze current literature related to ASL/English Interpretations, be able to apply theory to practice, perform self/peer assessments of their work, provide Interpretations, work on voice projection strategies and conduct and report on a research project.
