Course Description
The purpose of this course is to further the development of skills and knowledge in interpretation/transliteration between English and American Sign Language (ASL) with the primary focus on English to ASL interpretations. Various English source texts will be used to practice consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Students will practice producing equivalent interpretations/transliterations through the use of discourse mapping and other strategies. Public speaking skills and expansion of English vocabulary will also be stressed.
Students will be expected to read and analyze current literature related to ASL/English interpretation/transliteration, be able to apply theory to practice, perform self/peer assessments of their work and produce interpretations/transliterations.
