Course Description
This course is a historical and theoretical survey of significant developments in European Art since World War II. The course will begin with the transformations of the forms and strategies of the historic avant-gardes into various schools of neo-avant-garde activity, from Concrete Art to Kinetic Art. Then the course will trace the development of Pop and neo-Dada Art in France, Italy, and Germany during the 1960s and 70s. Contemporary trends and debates will also be examined, from the rise of European Conceptual art practices to recent installation art and the idea of Relational Aesthetics.
