Course Description
This course provides the opportunity to learn and practice using analytic techniques designed to discuss and explain music composed during the last 100 years. The course focuses on music that avoids traditional tonality in favor of newer forms of organization. Set theory, twelve-tone theory, serialism, referential collections, and others, will all be covered. While this course is not a seminar, participants will be expected to prepare new material for each meeting and to present new concepts to their classmates.
