Course Description
The surgical subspecialty requirement has been created to allow the medical student to focus a minimum of two weeks on a specialty of the surgical field. These surgical specialties include anesthesia, cardiothoracic surgery, otolaryngology (ENT), neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, urology, and vascular surgery. The goal is to provide a more specific exposure to surgical issues and diseases encompassed by the subspecialties listed above. Similar to the basic general surgery experience, the specialties are designed to focus on the diagnosis, operative treatment, and postoperative management of surgical patients requiring subspecialty service.
