Course Description
The objective is to become familiar with visual art from three broad geographic areas of the ancient New World: the Central Andes (Peru and Bolivia); Mexico; and the Maya area (Mexico, Guatemala, and parts of Central America). In addition to learning to identify art works by culture, geographic region, date, subject, form, and materials, the student will learn to describe and analyze their forms verbally. He/she will also learn to compare images to reveal similarities and differences among human cultures, and finally, the student will become familiar with the materials and technology of art.
