LAS560 - Film and Feminism in Latin America

Global Studies, Sch ofGraduateUA - UA General

Course ID

037029

Course Description

This course explores the relationship between film and feminism in Latin America. What can films teach us about Latin American women and their struggles against patriarchy and other forms of oppression? How is our knowledge about the Latin American region enhanced by watching films instead of studying only academic texts? To address these questions, we will analyze multiple award-winning films directed by Latin American women through a variety of writing projects. The readings and films address topics such as women and revolution; women, class, and race; motherhood; and gender- and state-based violence.
