Course Description
Students interested in Vascular Neurology provide clinical care for acute stroke patients with focus on interventions and management of complications. Students also spend time with risk management and reduction. Students are exposed to a large amount of neuro-radiology during this rotation and are expected to have solid foundational knowledge of cerebrovascular anatomy and imaging before starting the rotation.
Goals Include: Diagnosis of Acute Ischemic CVA with knowledge on the use of tPA and interventional radiology; Diagnosis of acute hemorrhagic CVA with knowledge of the acute management; Understanding of cerebrovascular territories and their related clinical syndromes; management of acute complications of CVA; Diagnosis of CVA mimics; Chronic stroke risk reduction management, indications for anticoagulation, carotid endartectomy, and HgA1c goals.
