Course Description
Students will obtain a generalized knowledge base of common skin conditions affecting neonates, infants, children and adolescents. They will acquire skills of dermatologic description used to accurate communicate skin findings and differential diagnosis to specialist, including the following skin disorders: Atopic dermatitis and diaper dermatitis, Psoriasis, Molluscum contagiosum, Warts, Herpes simplex virus, Impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis, Alopecia areata, Hemangiomas, Congenital melancytic nevi, Vitiligo, Common birthmarks, Childhood exanthems. In addition, students will learn basic treatment regimens for dermatologic disorders and specifically, when to refer patients to a dermatologist and identify benign versus malignant skin findings, when appropriate.
