DVP603 - Macro and Micro-economic Tools for Development Practice
Course ID
037686
Course Description
The development practitioner must be able to understand the nature of household, farm, community and national economic decision making and the impacts of the economic incentives that present themselves through market forces and public policies. This course introduces fundamental principles and tools of analysis used in micro and macro-economics, especially as they relate to household decision making and to policy impacts in a developing world context. The course introduces the measures and meaning of poverty and emphasizes the dynamic interrelationships between larger level forces, such as national finance, trade and fiscal policy, and the allocative decisions that are made at a local level. Students will learn specific tools to analyze these micro-macro relationships in terms of poverty reduction outcomes and the sustainable natural resource management.
