Course Description
This course is an upper division honors workshop for students interested in learning about current practices in linguistics research in order to best prepare for an honors thesis in the field. In this workshop, we will consider the many different ways in which professionals in the field conduct research on language, its use, and its participants. Students will have the opportunity to hear from experts in various sub-disciplines of linguistics about their work (peers, former undergraduates now in graduate school elsewhere, and U of A faculty). At the same time, students will work on developing their own research proposal in order to be best prepared to engage in an honors thesis in future semesters. This will include how to find an appropriate thesis advisor, how to discover and plan new research, how to negotiate the administrative requirements, and best of all how to begin to address their own questions of interest.
