Course Description
This course focuses on the role of emotion in the communication process. We will examine various theoretic perspectives that explain what emotions are and what they do, and we will adjudicate various applications of emotion research and theory in effective communication practice.
Graduate students will complete all of the assignments and exams assigned to Undergraduate students. In addition, they will propose, conduct, and report the results of an original empirical study relevant to the communication of emotion. A research prospectus (worth up to 100 points) will review theory and literature and articulate a relevant empirical method to address a research question approved by the instructor. A final report (with up to 150 points) will offer a revised literature review and method section, as well as a complete results and discussion section. The final paper is expected to be of a quality suitable for submission to a national convention or publication.
