HNRS250 - Methods in Health and Human Values
Course ID
039098
Course Description
This course will be organized around a health or medicine-based theme each semester. The aim of this course is to introduce students to modes of methodological inquiry common to the humanistic and social sciences, and to make a comparison with the methods of the life sciences. We will use these methods to consider the theme and the conceptual framework of how it is experienced, enacted, and represented in a wide range of social, cultural, and historical contexts. Students will learn how to read critically and unravel complex arguments; how to identify a social scientific position and summarize or rebut it; and to differentiate scientific inquiry and abstract ideas.
