Course Description

Course is available to students participating in the Medical Education distinction track.

Goals/Objectives: The goal of this course is to introduce students to key concepts and practices in the field of medical education.

Format: Interactive lecture/discussion-based course. As much as possible, each session will be team-taught by an instructor with experience teaching medical students/physicians and an instructor with expertise in education. The underlying structure of all sessions will be for students to complete background reading before class and while in class, perform the associated activity. Writing assessable learning objectives and valid and reliable multiple choice questions as well as reflective practice will be integrated into every session. Participation is required at a minimum of 10 sessions. The materials students create through their participation in the course will form the basis of a teaching portfolio.
