MENA342 - The Persian World: Arts, Culture, and History
Course Description
This course introduces students to the Persian world's civilization through engagement with significant historical, political, cultural, and artistic developments from ancient times when Persia was the largest empire to the contemporary era when the heritage is shared in many nations. All components of the course begin with a historical approach and later focus on the cultural and social scientific studies of the secondary texts and primary material. To do this, the course takes a multi-disciplinary approach, examining the Persian world from the humanities/arts and social sciences perspectives, assessing how Persian civilization formed, survived, and has experienced modernity. Building on the assignments throughout the course, students will produce a final project on one or more course topics employing at least two different disciplines.
