Course Description

This course provides a foundational knowledge of counseling and psychotherapy. Students will be introduced to individual, group, and family therapies with emphasis on delivery to patients across the lifespan. Influences such as biology, emotion, social, family, cultural and spiritual beliefs and knowledge will be reviewed. Course assignments will require the use of appropriate and relevant research findings, while emphasizing health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and treatment. Course assignments will also help students describe the therapeutic relationship, including transference and counter-transference.
