Course Description
Students will complete 2 or 3 virtual field trip excursions dedicated to a selected human rights topic/issue/theme/phenomenon as experienced/understood in different parts of the world, or, as a vertical exploration of local to macro-level domains impacting an issue. The field trips will focus on the lived experience of the human rights topic. An activist or scholar in a relevant location will host each field trip and arrange for video or audio interviews with key stakeholders, guest lectures, and a video tour of the location. Students will gain tools to assess the human rights situation locally through examining stakeholder interests and incentive structures and spaces of agentive expression/action. Possible themes include environmental justice, migrant journeys, and gender and development.
