Course Description

This course is for senior undergraduate and graduate students. The overall goal of this course is to apply the fundamental theoretical principles of synoptic-dynamic and mesoscale meteorology to the real atmosphere through a discussion of ensemble weather forecasting, an application of quasi-geostrophic principles and potential vorticity thinking to weather and forecasting, an overview of the dynamics of convective storms, and a real-time severe weather and quantitative precipitation forecasting exercise.
