Studies the concept of \"ambassadorship\" in Asian American writing, as distinct from \"representation\" and \"translation\". The class will study the memoirs of early \"ambassadors\" of the East and bring those texts to bear on mediations of immigration and narratives of ethnic assimilation in contemporary Asian American fiction. Other course materials include theory, film, and television.
