Course Description

This course is designed for students who are preparing to become elementary and middle school teachers and students interested in working in elementary and middle schools. The course will introduce students to the big ideas in the elementary and middle school science curriculum in the areas of physical science, life science, Earth and space science, and engineering. Students will explore these ideas by engaging in scientific and engineering practices such as asking questions, conducting investigations, constructing explanations, and designing solutions. The course will also provide an introduction to the nature of science as well as the power and limitations of science as an enterprise. Students will become familiar with state and national science education standards and common ways children make sense of science ideas.
