Course Description

This course explains the different models and facility requirements for how health care is organized and delivered. Examples include the regulations that govern inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, and the accreditation process with the Centre for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Additional topics include the regulation of tax-exempt hospitals with their associated community benefit role, and related health care statutes for providing access to care, including EMTALA. Advances in technology, such as the regulations around telemedicine and health information exchanges will be covered. The course concludes with innovative examples of improving health care delivery in the US.
