Students will build linguistic capacity in Medical Spanish and cultural competency through an independent study course designed with assistance from the course director. This will be achieved through utilization of course resources/virtual textbooks (i.e. Medical Spanish independent learning modules and additional textbooks listed under Recommended Readings) and an independent program of study actively mentored by the course director, which shall include the completion of an independent paper focusing on delivery of health care to the Latino population and reinforcement of Medical Spanish and conversational Spanish in the clinical setting.
