Course Description
This graduate proseminar introduces students to the approaches, methods, praxes, and applications of intercultural arts. Intercultural arts, as it appears in this course, is defined as the expressive cultural practices, artistic pathways, and creative media that emerge between different sociocultural groups. A wide-ranging area, intercultural arts can be pursued in a variety of scholarly areas, such as library studies, ethnomusicology, education, and cognitive science. Students will leave this course with a foundation in many of the potential methods and fields encompassed by intercultural arts, a firm grasp of current literature in these fields, and experience in the community applications of academic knowledge. This course is led by a primary instructor with the assistance of disciplinary experts affiliated with the graduate interdisciplinary program in applied intercultural arts research.
