Course Description

The United States-México border region is a unique, 2,000 miles long area, comprised of multi- cultural populations which are interconnected across a geopolitical boundary. Although residents along this binational region share environmental, social, economic, cultural, and epidemiological characteristics, each country operates under different legal and political systems, health systems and policies. This course will introduce students to the concept of health and resilience in borderland communities and examine challenges and opportunities around access to health care; wellness and prevention; health surveillance; and evidence-based interventions and cultural models of excellence for building resilience.
