Course Description

This course is designed to provide a Paramedic with the additional training necessary to operate a community paramedic program or EMS treat and refer program. In the first 4 weeks of this course students will lean how to be a community paramedic and obtain the knowledge necessary to sit to certification as a community paramedic. Topics covered will include: advanced EMS pharmaceuticals, management of chronic disease and recognition of acute decompensation of chronic disease. In the second 3 weeks of the course students will learn how to provide services through a treat and refer program. This includes the identification of patients that would be best treated at non-emergency care facilities and how newer technology such as the use of telemedicine in the prehospital setting can be sued to optimize patient care.
