CMM426 - Ethics and Professionalism: Basics for Pre-Health Professions Students
Course ID
041379
Course Description
This course will use a presentational and case-based approach to introduce students to: common frameworks for ethical decision-making (utilitarian, duty-based, justice-based, etc.); principles of ethical decision-making in health care (beneficence, nonmaleficence, respect, etc.); confidentiality; informed consent. Recognizing that, in addition to a grounding in ethical decision-making, positive outcomes in health care require the ability to work effectively as members of healthcare teams, the course will include a case-based approach to examining functional and dysfunctional behaviors within teams. We expect that this grounding in ethics and professionalism can serve as a consciousness-raising that will encourage students to become better citizens as well as better professionals.
