ARE201 - The Arts in Social Movements
Course Description
This course introduces students to social movements through art and visual culture and to influential works of art and creative action that have helped mediate public discourse, shift collective consciousness, and bring about social change. It focuses on movements in which gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and race are central to mobilization, and as such these categories are lenses through which students learn to analyze the production and reception of works of art and visual culture at various times and circumstances.
