Course Description

This course is an introduction to inclusive or universal design of products, environments and systems with a focus on ergonomics and human factors research techniques, analysis methods and best practices to improve upon conventional design practices that often exclude older adults and people with physical and sensory impairments. I will introduce ergonomics principles and knowledge bases relevant to many design problems, analysis methods for obtaining information about designing for human performance associated with anthropometry, biomechanics, perception and cognition, and examples to demonstrate the need and value of inclusive design.
