Course ID

Course Description
Twenty-first century patients are looking to play an active role in managing their health, and powerful consumer digital technologies are putting health insights and resources into the palms of their hands. New devices such as smartphone apps, wearable fitness trackers, and other tools produce incredible volumes of data about a person's physical state during their daily life.
These technologies have the potential to put patients at the center of their health. However, patients need guidance and support to make use of these technologies in ways that will help them achieve meaningful improvements in their health. In this course, you will learn about the integrative, behavioral, and epidemiological reasons that make it more important than ever for physicians to work with patients to help them understand and interpret their digital health information.
This course will help students to make the most of consumer enthusiasm for digital health technologies by providing them with key literature, frameworks, and methods for engaging patients in productive dialogs about how digital technologies can help them reach their health goals. Through the materials in this self- paced course, students will also be exposed to a wide range of perspectives, including peer reviewed research on health systems science issues and video interviews with leaders in the field of digital health.
