Course ID

Course Description

The availability and use of nonrenewable resources such as hydrocarbons, coal, metals, stone, and industrial minerals has shaped the development of human societies from the Stone Age to the present, and will continue to affect future humanity. This course covers the ways humans have extracted and used nonrenewable resources over time, how resource use has shaped the development of civilizations, and how the past and present have been influenced by the uneven natural distribution of nonrenewable resources. This course is intended for students in mineral resources-related graduate programs who have little or no background in geology, metallurgy, or mining engineering.
