Course Description

Aging, everyone is doing it. Yet, how many of us stop to consider the why, what, and how of this process, and whether we can prepare for an optimal old age? This course challenges students to think about aging, their notions, expectations about what it means to be old, and learn about the diverse factors contributing to making aging a heterogeneous experience. Using a social scientist approach and a gerontological lens, the goal of this course is to encourage students to visualize and plan for the old age they imagine for themselves and others; by exploring the varied perspectives and factors with the potential to shape how we age, and the diverse lived experience of older persons (or the older population and its subgroups).
